Generation

The electricity sector in Georgia is largely deregulated. Most of the generation assets are in private hands, an independent regulator (GNERC) exists, ESCO, the market maker, ensures demand/supply match, there grid is operated by the state owned Georgian State Electrosystem while the main distribution companies (Telasi and UDC ) are privately owned (see figure).
